Baptism

So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
Galatians 3:26-27

Welcome to the beginning of a beautiful journey of faith!

Baptism is a joyful moment for your family and a beautiful beginning in your child’s relationship with God. At Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Glendale, Arizona, we are honored to celebrate this special sacrament with you.

Whether you have been part of our parish for years or are just getting to know our community, we are happy to help you take this important step in your child’s faith journey.

The Gift of Baptism

Baptism is the first sacrament of Christian initiation. Through Baptism, we are freed from sin, become children of God, and are welcomed into the Catholic Church.

As parents, you have the beautiful responsibility of helping your child grow in faith, prayer, and love for Christ. You don’t have to do this alone. Your child’s godparents and our parish community are here to support you along the way.

How to Begin Your Child’s Baptism

At OLPH, our Baptism process is for children under 7 years of age.

Here’s how to get started:

1. Visit the Parish Office

A parent must visit the OLPH Parish Office to pick up a Baptism packet, which includes the application and godparent forms.

Parish registration is not required to have your child baptized at OLPH.

2. Complete Your Baptism Packet

To complete your child’s Baptism registration, you will need:

  • Completed Baptism application
  • Your child’s birth certificate
  • Parents’ identification
  • Completed godparent forms

Our parish staff will help you understand the requirements and answer any questions.

3. Attend Baptism Preparation

Parents and godparents are required to attend a Baptism preparation class approximately two weeks before the Baptism.

This class is an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Baptism and the important role you will have in nurturing your child’s Catholic faith.

4. Celebrate Your Child’s Baptism!

Community Baptisms are celebrated once a month at OLPH.

Please contact the Parish Office for upcoming dates and availability.

Please note: Baptisms are not scheduled during December.

Choosing Godparents

Godparents have a special responsibility to support your child as they grow in their Catholic faith.

At least one Catholic godparent is required. A Catholic godparent must:

  • Have received Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation.
  • Be living a life consistent with the Catholic faith.
  • If married, be married in the Catholic Church.

The Baptism packet includes the forms and additional information needed for godparents.
